About Us

Laughton Training & Sales (LTS) was founded in 1998 by Tessa to help Off-The-Track-Thoroughbreds (OTTBs) get the training they needed to have another career in life. With training and time many of the OTTBs that have come to LTS have become successful Trillium & A circuit level show horses and become very important parts of their new owner's lives.
At Laughton Training and Sales, the emphasis is on the horses and developing individual programs to achieve the goals of owner/rider. Whether you are looking to improve your technique, prepare for show season or just want to brush up on your skills, LTS will be able to accommodate your goals. Coaching available from Beginner through Advanced in hunter/jumper, equitation and dressage. Attending select shows in the area, LTS can be guaranteed to come home with ribbons!

Tessa Laughton
Tessa Laughton is a Canadian equestrian trainer, entrepreneur, and the founder of Laughton Training & Sales in Puslinch, Ontario. She began her business in 1998 at just 18 years old, launching it independently with no investors. Starting slowly and building one client and one horse at a time, she grew the operation from the ground up into the respected, full-service riding academy it is today.
With over 30 years of experience in the equestrian industry, Tessa specializes in hunter, jumper, and equitation training. Under her leadership, Laughton Training & Sales has developed into a thriving competitive program featuring a show team of more than 25 riders and a herd of over 60 horses and ponies. Her program emphasizes strong horsemanship, competitive excellence, and the development of confident, capable riders both inside and outside the show ring.
Throughout her career, Tessa has demonstrated steady leadership through both growth and adversity. Most notably, she successfully managed and contained a strangles outbreak at her facility through swift action, rigorous biosecurity protocols, transparent communication with clients, and an unwavering commitment to horse welfare. Rather than allowing stigma or fear to define the experience, Tessa launched a Stop the Stigma initiative to help educate the broader equestrian community and encourage open communication around biosecurity and disease management. Her advocacy work helped shift industry conversations toward accountability and prevention, and in recognition of her leadership, she was awarded the 2023 Equine Canada Health and Welfare Award. The experience strengthened her operational systems, reinforced her leadership philosophy, and further cemented her reputation for integrity and professionalism under pressure.
Recognized for her work ethic, resilience, and uncompromising standards, Tessa continues to mentor riders from beginner levels through A-circuit competition while maintaining a respected and influential presence within the Ontario equestrian community. In recognition of her ongoing contributions to the sport, she was also honored with the 2024 Founders Award for the Angelstone Silver Series, acknowledging her meaningful support, sponsorship, and commitment to strengthening the circuit and its opportunities for developing riders.
Tessa was also asked to speak at the 2026 Ontario Equestrian Conference this year and was just recently sponsored by Antares and partnered with Equine Choice as well as Ride Every Stride this year.
